Sušice

Sušice is located in southwestern Bohemia and serves as a handy base for exploring the Bohemian Forest National Park (Šumava). The town has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages, once being an important gold mining center. It later became world-famous for its match production under the SOLO brand, a history impressively documented at the Museum of the Bohemian Forest. The historic town square, with its Renaissance town hall and colorful burgher houses, is the heart of the city. For active tourists, the Otava River has opportunities for canoeing and rafting. The surrounding hills of the Bohemian Forest are crisscrossed with hiking and cycling trails leading to wide-open viewpoints like the Svatobor Tower. Getting to Sušice is possible by train or bus from major cities like Plzeň or Prague. The town is also easily accessible by car.
