Jindřichův Hradec in South Bohemia is famous for its extensive castle and chateau complex, the third largest in the Czech Republic. The complex, a blend of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles, was the seat of the powerful Lords of Hradec and later the Slawata and Czernin families. A special attraction is the 'Black Kitchen,' one of the largest preserved Renaissance kitchens in Central Europe. The town itself is welcoming, with its historic center on the banks of the Vajgar pond. Another highlight is the Krýza Nativity Scene, the largest mechanical nativity scene in the world, listed in the Guinness Book of Records. Jindřichův Hradec is also the starting point for two scenic narrow-gauge railways that run through the 'Czech Canada' landscape.
