Kolinec Castle (Czech Republic)

Weather…

Kolinec Castle, originally a medieval fortress, is situated in southwestern Bohemia near the town of Klatovy. The first records of a fortification at this site date back to the 14th century, when it belonged to the lords of Kolinec. In the 16th century, the original Gothic fortress was replaced by a Renaissance stone building, which later underwent Baroque and Neoclassical modifications during the 18th and 19th centuries. For centuries, the castle served as the administrative heart of the local estate and a residence for several noble families, most notably the Counts of Taaffe. The three-winged architectural layout surrounds a central courtyard and is adjacent to a large landscape park that was redesigned in the 19th century. Following World War II, the property was nationalized and used for various public purposes before undergoing restoration in recent decades to preserve its historical significance for the Plzeň Region.
