Platania Valley (Cyprus)

Weather…

The Platania Valley is one of the most photogenic valleys in the Troodos Mountains, famous for its lush vegetation and the giant plane trees from which it takes its name. Geographically, it is located on the northern flank of the main mountain range and is fed by year-round water sources, making it a green oasis. Historically, the area was developed as a recreational site during the British colonial period and houses one of the island's oldest forest stations. The valley is a significant refuge for the Cyprus mouflon, the island's endemic wild sheep, which can be observed in a nearby protected area. The dense stands of alders, plane trees, and pines provide a welcome cooling in summer against the heat of the coast. Today, Platania is a central site for environmental education and nature tourism, equipped with popular picnic areas and camping facilities. The valley's ecological importance is highlighted by its protected status within the Troodos National Park.
