This small, single-aisled church is celebrated for its interior walls which are completely covered with frescoes that rank among the finest examples of Byzantine mural painting on the island. The name 'Asinou' is believed to derive from an ancient Greek city called Asine, founded by settlers from the Peloponnese. In the 14th century, the church was expanded with a domed narthex that was also beautifully painted.
