Akamas Peninsula (Cyprus)

Weather…

The Akamas Peninsula in northwestern Cyprus covers an area of approximately 230 square kilometres and is one of the island's most significant nature reserves. Geologically, the region is characterized by rugged limestone cliffs, deep gorges, and pristine bays such as the Blue Lagoon. Botanically, the area is of outstanding importance, hosting over 530 plant species, 35 of which are endemic, including the rare Cyprus tulip. On the coast lies Lara Beach, a critical nesting ground for the endangered loggerhead and green turtles. In mythology, Akamas is associated with the Baths of Aphrodite and the Fontana Amorosa, where the goddess of love is said to have bathed. Despite increasing tourist pressure, the peninsula remains largely uninhabited and preserves its wild character through strict protective regulations implemented by the Cypriot government.
