Velebit Nature Park (Croatia)

Weather…

Velebit Nature Park is the largest protected area in Croatia, spanning approximately 2,200 square kilometers and encompassing the entire mountain range of the same name. Due to its exceptional geomorphology and biodiversity, the area was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve as early as 1978. The landscape is characterized by rugged karst formations, deep canyons, complex cave systems, and extensive beech and fir forests. The nature park also contains two national parks: Paklenica and Northern Velebit. A special botanical treasure is the Velebit degenia, an endemic plant found only in these mountains. The range acts as a climatic barrier, separating the continental climate of the interior from the Mediterranean climate of the Adriatic coast. The famous Premužić Trail gives hikers spectacular views of the Adriatic islands while traversing some of the most remote and wild parts of the massif.
