Perušić is located in the vast plain of Ličko polje, surrounded by the impressive peaks of the Velebit mountains. The town has a turbulent history dating back to the time of the Frankopan princes in the 15th century. Its most prominent historical monument is the 'Turska kula' (Turkish Tower), the remains of a once-powerful fortress that played a strategic role during the Ottoman wars. The absolute highlight for nature lovers is the Pećinski park Grabovača, the only cave park in Europe. It houses numerous caves, of which the Samograd Cave, with its monumental dripstone formations, is accessible to visitors. The park also provides educational trails and viewpoints from which one can enjoy a spectacular view over the Lika River valley. Perušić is a well-suited retreat for hikers and hunters, as well as for everyone wanting to experience the untouched nature of Lika. The Lika River, flowing nearby, features opportunities for fishing and canoeing. Local gastronomy reflects the rugged nature of the region: strong Lika cheese, lamb meat, and potato specialties are a must for every visitor.
