Pag Saltworks (Croatia)

Weather…

The Pag Saltworks (Paška solana) is the largest salt producer in Croatia and looks back on a centuries-old tradition dating to antiquity. The salt is extracted in shallow evaporation ponds through the combined power of the sun and the steady 'Bura' wind, which gives it a unique chemical composition. This natural method of solar evaporation is ecologically sustainable and preserves the richness of marine minerals. Pag salt enjoys an excellent reputation for its purity and quality and has been recognized as a product with a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) since 2019. In addition to classic table salt, the company produces specialties such as 'fleur de sel' (Cvijet soli), which is highly valued in gourmet cuisine. The saltworks landscape with its characteristic clay ponds and channels is also a defining element of the cultural landscape of Pag Island. Modern facilities for cleaning and packaging supplement the traditional extraction to meet today's food standards.
