Maslinica is the crowning jewel of Šolta island, located in a deep, sheltered bay on its western coast. The village's history dates back to 1703, when the Marchi noble family built a fortified manor to defend the coast against pirate raids. Today, this baroque castle (Marchi Castle) has been converted into a boutique luxury hotel, serving as the focal point of the easy on the eye harbor. Facing the bay is an archipelago of seven small islets, which act as a natural breakwater and make Maslinica one of the most popular yachting destinations in Central Dalmatia. The name of the village is derived from 'maslina' (olive), reflecting the ancient groves that still dot the hillsides. The local pebble beaches offer pristine, turquoise waters well-suited for swimming and snorkeling. Gastronomic highlights of the village include Šolta's world-famous rosemary honey and premium olive oils. Maslinica is particularly famous for its spectacular sunsets, as the sun dips directly into the Adriatic behind the scattered islets. The waterfront promenade is lined with appealing cafes and konobas offering the day's fresh catch in a serene, upscale environment.
