Gornje Biljane is located in the heart of Ravni Kotari, the most fertile part of Northern Dalmatia, not far from the town of Benkovac. The region has been inhabited since antiquity and was an important part of the Croatian state in the Middle Ages. The village is characterized by a vast agricultural landscape where high-quality wine, olives, and figs are grown. In history, Gornje Biljane was often the scene of border conflicts, reflected in the remains of old fortifications in the area. Rural architecture is simple and functional, but the hospitality of the inhabitants is deeply rooted. For visitors, the place provides an authentic insight into life away from the coast, where time seems to pass more slowly. The surroundings are excellent for cycling through fields and vineyards. Nearby are the ruins of Asseria, an ancient Liburnian and Roman city, which is a must-see for history buffs. Local cuisine is based on simple but flavorful ingredients: lamb under the bell (peka), pršut, and full-bodied red wines are the stars of every table in Gornje Biljane.
