Štikada is situated in the rugged and beautiful region of Lika, at the foot of the southern Velebit mountains. The village is located in close proximity to the town of Gračac and is characterized by the impressive mountain backdrop and the cool mountain climate. The place is primarily known for Lake Štikada, an artificial reservoir created for the Velebit hydroelectric power plant, which is now a popular destination for anglers and nature lovers. The surroundings of Štikada offer a completely different experience than the Croatian coast. The landscape is defined by vast fields, deep forests, and prominent karst phenomena. For hikers, Štikada is a convenient starting point for tours into the Velebit Nature Park. Particularly worth seeing nearby are the Cerovac Caves, Croatia's largest cave system, which impresses with its underground halls and passages. The region is also known for its ecological agriculture and products like Lika cheese (Škripavac) and potatoes. In the winter months, Štikada is often covered in snow, giving the landscape a magic of its own. In the summer months, the altitude of over 500 meters provides a welcome cooling from the heat of the Adriatic. Access is via the D1 state road, the most important land connection between Northern Croatia and Dalmatia. Štikada is the well-suited spot for travelers wanting to discover the untouched nature of Lika and enjoy the silence of the mountains.
