Dingač Vineyards (Croatia)

Weather…

Dingač is the most prestigious wine-growing region in Croatia, situated on the steep southern slopes of the Pelješac Peninsula. The vineyards stretch between the villages of Trstenik and Podobuče, characterized by slopes with an inclination of up to 45 degrees. The indigenous Plavac Mali grape variety thrives here due to extreme solar radiation, received directly, reflected from the sea, and radiated from the rocky soil, resulting in high-alcohol wines with rich aromas. Historically, Dingač was the first Croatian wine region to be granted protected designation of origin status in 1961 under international standards. Due to the extreme steepness, harvesting is performed exclusively by hand, often utilizing donkeys for transport in the past. A major infrastructure milestone was the completion of the 400-meter-long Dingač tunnel in 1973, which significantly improved access to the slopes from the inland side. Dingač wines are considered the pinnacle of Croatian reds, fetching premium prices on international markets. The landscape, with its stony terraces and the azure Adriatic in the background, is also an iconic visual symbol of the country.
