Blue Cave of Biševo (Croatia)

Weather…

The Blue Cave on Biševo Island is one of the most iconic natural attractions on the Croatian Adriatic coast, world-renowned for its mesmerizing light effects. The cave was first introduced to the public in 1884 by Baron Eugen von Ransonnet-Villez, who commissioned the widening of the narrow natural entrance to allow small boats to enter. Between 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM, sunlight passes through a submerged natural opening and reflects off the white limestone floor, illuminating the cave in a brilliant azure glow. This phenomenon also gives submerged objects a shimmering silver appearance, creating a surreal and magical atmosphere inside the cavern. The cave is approximately 24 meters long and 10 to 12 meters deep, with its ceiling reaching up to 15 meters above the sea surface. Access is strictly controlled and only possible by small professional boats during calm sea conditions. Since 1951, the Blue Cave has been designated as a protected geomorphological monument of nature.
