Cartagena Refinery (Reficar) (Colombia)

Weather…

The Cartagena Refinery, commonly known as Reficar, is one of the most modern and efficient petroleum refineries in Latin America. Located in the Mamonal industrial zone of Cartagena, it is owned by Ecopetrol, the Colombian state-run oil company. Following a massive expansion and modernization project completed in 2015, the facility increased its processing capacity to approximately 165,000 barrels per day. Reficar plays a strategic role in Colombia's energy security by producing high-quality diesel and gasoline with low sulfur content, meeting both domestic demand and international export standards. The refinery utilizes advanced conversion technologies to process heavy crudes, significantly increasing the added value of the nation's oil production. In addition to fuels, the complex produces petrochemical feedstocks for various industrial applications. This project represented one of the largest infrastructure investments in Colombian history and stands as a symbol of the country's industrial modernization. Its coastal location facilitates direct maritime logistics through the Port of Cartagena.
