Tolú perfectly encapsulates the spirited and festive spirit of the Colombian Caribbean. Visitors are drawn to the lively malecón (boardwalk), where the sounds of Vallenato and Champeta music fill the air, and locals ride around in colorful bicitaxis (bicycle taxis). The town provides a more energetic and budget-friendly alternative to its quieter neighbor, Coveñas. While Tolú has its own town beaches, it is best known as the main launching point for boat tours to the spectacular San Bernardo Archipelago, including islands like Múcura, Tintipán, and Santa Cruz del Islote, the most densely populated island in the world. Eco-tours through nearby mangroves to spot wildlife are also highly recommended. The streets are filled with vendors selling local crafts, street food, and tropical fruits. Diners can feast on excellent seafood, especially shrimp cocktails and fried red snapper. You can reach Tolú by bus from Cartagena or Medellín, or fly into Corozal. The dry season, from December to April, is the well-suited time to visit.
