Ngaoundere Cattle Ranch (Cameroon)

Weather…

The cattle ranches of Ngaoundéré are located on the Adamawa Plateau, a region often referred to as the 'water tower of Cameroon.' This vast highland has handy conditions for large-scale cattle ranching, thanks to its cooler temperatures and extensive savanna grasslands. Cattle rearing is deeply rooted in the culture of the local Fulani (Mbororo) people, who have lived in this region for centuries as nomadic or sedentary pastoralists. The robust Goudali and Akou breeds of Zebu cattle are primarily raised here, as they are well-adapted to the local climate and grazing conditions. With millions of head of cattle, the plateau is one of Central Africa's most important meat production zones. The cattle market in Ngaoundéré serves as a central trading hub, from which animals are transported to southern Cameroon and neighboring countries like Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. Management often follows traditional pastoral practices, with herds migrating seasonally in search of fresh grazing lands. Cattle ranching contributes significantly to the region's GDP and defines the highland's identity through its vast pastures and iconic herds.
