Bénoué National Park (Cameroon)

Weather…

Bénoué National Park provides a classic African savanna experience, characterized by wooded grasslands and the winding Bénoué River. The river is the lifeblood of the park, creating a vital corridor for wildlife during the harsh dry months. It is one of the most accessible national parks in Cameroon for viewing large mammals in their natural habitat. The park is particularly famous for its large pods of hippopotamuses that wallow in the deeper river pools. Visitors can also spot crocodiles, baboons, various antelope species including the giant Lord Derby eland, and occasionally lions. Bird watching is excellent along the riverbanks, especially during the migratory season. The park's main entrance is located off the paved highway between Ngaoundéré and Garoua, making it relatively easy to reach by car. Basic camping facilities and simple lodges are available within the reserve boundaries. The optimal time for wildlife viewing is the height of the dry season, from February to May, when animals are forced to congregate near the river.
