Minim-Martap Bauxite Deposit (Cameroon)

Weather…

The Minim-Martap bauxite deposit in the Adamawa Region of northern Cameroon is regarded as one of the highest-quality bauxite reserves in the world. The deposits are located across a series of high plateaus where the ore lies in a thick layer directly at the surface, enabling cost-efficient open-pit mining. Currently developed by Canyon Resources, the project encompasses several plateaus including Minim-Martap and Makan. The bauxite is characterized by an exceptionally high alumina content and low levels of impurities, making it highly attractive for the global aluminum industry. For logistical development, the existing Camrail railway line is intended to be utilized and upgraded to transport the ore to the ports of Douala or Kribi. This undertaking is of central importance to the economic development of northern Cameroon, as it will bring infrastructure improvements and new industrial sectors. The government actively promotes the project to establish Cameroon as a leading bauxite exporter in Africa.
