Sofia Zoo (Bulgaria)

Weather…

The Sofia Zoo is the oldest and largest zoological garden in the Balkan Peninsula. It was founded in 1888 by Prince Ferdinand I and was originally located in the city center before moving to its current site at the foot of Vitosha Mountain in 1984. Spanning approximately 36 hectares, the zoo is home to over 2,000 animals representing more than 250 species, including rare and endangered animals such as the snow leopard and various birds of prey. The facility is divided into thematic zones that provide habitats for big cats, primates, elephants, and a wide variety of reptiles. In recent years, extensive modernizations have been carried out to create more natural enclosures and improve animal welfare standards. As a vital center for education and conservation, the zoo features numerous programs for children and conducts research activities aimed at preserving local biodiversity.
