💡 Tips
- Prepare for rapid mountain weather changes; dressing in layers is highly recommended even during the summer.
- The resort area is spread out, so having a car makes it much easier to reach different hiking trailheads.
- Cash is essential here; ATMs are very scarce, so make sure to withdraw enough Leva before you arrive.
- Always check with your accommodation about the current hiking conditions, as the Rila Mountains can be unpredictable.

Semkovo is a scenic high-mountain resort situated at 1,600 to 1,750 meters altitude on the southern slopes of the Rila Mountains. Located about 17 km from the town of Belitsa, it is surrounded by vast pine forests and alpine meadows, offering panoramic views of the Pirin Mountains. During winter, it has several ski runs served by lifts, making it a quieter alternative to Bulgaria's major ski hubs. In summer, Semkovo becomes a hub for hikers and mountain bikers, with routes leading to the Vapa glacial lakes and various mountain peaks. A significant nearby attraction is the 'Dancing Bears Park', a sanctuary for rescued bears. With its fresh air and tranquil atmosphere, Semkovo is excellent for nature lovers and families seeking an escape from more crowded tourist destinations.
