Ahtopol is the southernmost town on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, offering a unique blend of history and tranquility. Founded by the Greeks as Agathopolis ('City of Goodness'), it sits on a rugged peninsula of volcanic rock. The town's most iconic symbol is the small white lighthouse at the end of the stone pier, which is one of the most photographed landmarks in the region. Ahtopol retains a nostalgic, bohemian atmosphere with old houses and a slow pace of life, far from the noise of mass tourism. The main beach of Ahtopol is located in a wide bay north of the center, featuring fine sand and very clear water. The coastline around the town is dotted with fascinating volcanic formations and tiny secluded coves, convenient for snorkeling. As it is part of the Strandzha Nature Park, the surrounding area is exceptionally green and wild. Local taverns by the harbor serve fresh catch of the day at very reasonable prices. Due to its proximity to the Turkish border (just 15 km away), it enjoys the mildest climate in the country. Located 80 km south of Burgas, it is the well-suited spot for travelers seeking peace, nature, and authenticity.
