Péruwelz, a municipality in the Belgian province of Hainaut, sits right on the border with France. This Walloon city is deeply embedded in the Plaines de l'Escaut Natural Park, offering a rich natural environment with extensive forests and waterways. Historically, the city was a center for the leather industry. A key highlight is the Château de l'Hermitage, an elegant 18th-century castle once owned by the famous Prince Charles-Joseph de Ligne, surrounded by a pretty park. The city is a gateway to the natural park, which features numerous hiking and cycling trails. Visitors can explore the tranquil beauty of the Forest of Bon-Secours or stroll along the Nimy-Blaton-Péronnes Canal. The Basilica of Our Lady of Bon-Secours is a significant pilgrimage site with impressive Neo-Gothic architecture. Local cuisine reflects both Belgian and French influences, with hearty dishes and a selection of Belgian beers available in local brasseries. Getting to Péruwelz is easy. The city has its own railway station with connections to major cities like Tournai and Mons. By car, it is readily accessible via the E42 motorway. Its proximity to Lille, France (about 30 km), also makes it accessible for international travelers. The best seasons to visit are spring and summer, when the weather is good for exploring the natural surroundings and the city's attractions.
