The majestic Collegiate Church of Sainte-Gertrude, an architectural masterpiece in pure Romanesque style, still dominates the city center today. It is one of the oldest and largest Romanesque churches in Europe and houses impressive historical treasures in its crypt. Nivelles was an important religious and commercial center in the Middle Ages, as evidenced by the remains of the old city wall.
