Jodoigne is an appealing town in the province of Walloon Brabant, celebrated for its rich architectural heritage crafted from light-colored Gobertange limestone. This distinctive local stone gives the town and its surrounding hamlets a luminous, almost white appearance that is unique in Belgium. The heart of the town is graced by the Saint-Médard Church, a masterpiece of Romanesque-Gothic transition architecture dating back to the 12th century. During the Middle Ages, Jodoigne was a preferred residence for the Dukes of Brabant, highlighting its historical political significance in the region. Another landmark is the elegant 18th-century Town Hall, built in 1733 in a refined baroque style. Situated in the valley of the Grande Gette river, the town is surrounded by fertile rolling farmlands and scenic landscapes convenient for outdoor activities. Today, Jodoigne is a thriving community known for its high quality of life, traditional markets, and cultural festivals. The ongoing operation of the Gobertange stone quarries ensures the preservation of the town's unique character and the continuity of regional craftsmanship.
