Frameries is a resilient municipality in the province of Hainaut, deeply embedded in the coal-mining history of the Borinage region. For generations, the town’s identity and economy were shaped by the extraction of coal, evidence of which remains in the form of iconic slag heaps (terrils) that dot the local landscape. A major modern highlight of Frameries is the PASS (Parc d'aventures scientifiques), a science adventure park established on the site of the former Crachet-Picquery coal mine, blending industrial heritage with interactive education. The area is also culturally significant due to its association with Vincent van Gogh, who lived and preached in the neighboring district of Wasmes, drawing inspiration from the arduous lives of the local miners. Since the decline of heavy industry, Frameries has successfully transitioned into a center for research, logistics, and public services. The town has excellent recreational facilities, including the 'L'Écurie' sports complex, and maintains a strong sense of community through traditional Walloon folklore and local celebrations.
