National Art Museum of Belarus (Belarus)

Weather…

The National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus in Minsk is the country's most significant cultural treasury, housing an extraordinarily valuable fine art collection. Originally established in 1939 as the State Art Gallery, the institution suffered a tragic fate during World War II when the vast majority of its original pre-war inventory was either looted or completely destroyed. Through immense nationwide efforts in the post-war decades, the collection was painstakingly rebuilt. The current main building, a monumental Neoclassical structure distinguished by a grand facade supported by massive Corinthian columns, was completed in 1957. Today, its expansive galleries display over 30,000 artworks. The museum's absolute highlights include a rare and extensive collection of ancient Belarusian and Russian icons, masterpieces by renowned 19th-century Russian painters such as Ilya Repin and Ivan Shishkin, and a comprehensive exhibition of modern national art.
