The Cathedral of the Holy Spirit, beautifully situated in the historic Upper City of Minsk, serves as the central and most significant Belarusian Orthodox church in the capital. The gleaming white structure, distinguished by its elegant twin domed towers, was originally constructed between 1633 and 1642 as a Catholic Bernardine convent in the Baroque architectural style. Following a series of political shifts and destructive fires in the 19th century, the building was transferred and consecrated as an Orthodox church in 1860. The interior of the cathedral exudes a profound sense of spirituality and safeguards invaluable religious artifacts, most notably the revered wonder-working Icon of the Mother of God of Minsk, which legend claims miraculously floated up the Svislach River in the 16th century.
