Ramsagar National Park (Bangladesh)

Weather…

Ramsagar National Park, located in the Dinajpur District of northwestern Bangladesh, is home to the largest man-made lake in the country. The reservoir was excavated in the mid-18th century, likely between 1750 and 1755, by the local ruler Raja Ram Nath to alleviate the devastating droughts affecting the region. The national park was established in 2001 to preserve the area surrounding this historic tank. The landscape is characterized by high embankments and a diverse array of trees, including mahogany, Sal, and various fruit trees, which provide shade and habitat for local wildlife. The lake itself is a vital habitat for freshwater fish and attracts numerous migratory birds during the winter season. Ramsagar serves as both a significant ecological site and a historical monument, showcasing the sophisticated water management efforts of the period.
