Kantajew Temple (Bangladesh)

Weather…

Kantajew Temple in Dinajpur is one of the most magnificent Hindu temples in Bangladesh and an outstanding example of 18th-century terracotta architecture. It was built between 1704 and 1752, started under Maharaja Pran Nath and completed by his son, Ram Nath. The temple was originally a Nava-ratna structure with nine spires, but these collapsed during a severe earthquake in 1897 and were never rebuilt. The entire exterior surface of the temple is covered with thousands of terracotta plaques that depict scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata in great detail. The architecture follows the Bengali style, with a square base and arched entrances on all four sides. Dedicated to Krishna, the temple attracts thousands of pilgrims during the annual Rash Mela festival. Its extraordinary craftsmanship and historical significance make it one of the country's most precious cultural sites. It is considered a masterpiece of late medieval temple architecture in Bengal, famous for its fine details.
