Pertisau is the main resort on Lake Achensee, Tyrol's largest lake, offering a unique combination of water and high mountains. The village is the gateway to the Karwendel Nature Park, Europe's largest nature reserve in the Eastern Alps. A special feature of Pertisau is Tyrolean shale oil (Steinöl), extracted from oil shale for generations; the 'Vitalberg' experience center provides information about its history. In summer, Achensee boat trips and Tyrol's oldest golf club are popular attractions. In winter, the village transforms into a mecca for cross-country skiers with over 200 kilometers of trails leading into the pristine Karwendel valleys. The journey there is an experience in itself, especially when using the historic Achenseebahn, a steam-powered cog railway from Jenbach. The upscale hotels and the lakeside promenade invite visitors to stroll and enjoy the scenery.
