Santa Coloma Church (Andorra)

Weather…

The church of Santa Coloma d'Andorra is one of the oldest and most singular religious buildings in the principality. Its nave is pre-Romanesque, dating back to the 8th or 9th century, but its most striking feature is the four-story circular Lombard bell tower, which was added in the 12th century and is a rare sight in the Pyrenees. The church was once famous for its magnificent Romanesque frescoes, which were sold and removed in the 1930s. After a long journey through private collections and museums, a significant part of these paintings was recovered by the Andorran government and is now displayed in a dedicated museum space next to the church, allowing visitors to appreciate them in their original context through video mapping technology.
