Casa de la Vall (Andorra)

Weather…

Casa de la Vall, meaning 'House of the Valley', is one of Andorra's most emblematic buildings. Originally a 16th-century manor house, it was purchased in 1702 to serve as the headquarters of the Consell de la Terra (General Council), Andorra's parliament. Its robust stone walls and defensive tower reflect the turbulent times in which it was built. Inside, visitors can explore the main chamber where the council met, a historical kitchen, and the old courtroom. A standout feature is the Cabinet of the Seven Keys, a chest that held the country's most important documents and could only be opened when representatives from all seven parishes were present with their keys. Though the parliament moved to a new building in 2011, Casa de la Vall remains a powerful symbol of Andorra's unique history and democratic tradition.
