The Sidi M'Cid Bridge is the most iconic landmark of Constantine, a city famously known as the 'City of Bridges.' Spanning the dramatic Rhumel River gorge at a staggering height of 175 meters, this suspension bridge was inaugurated in 1912 to connect the historic Kasbah with the hospital district. It was designed by the renowned French engineer Ferdinand Arnodin, featuring a structure 164 meters long that utilized advanced cable-stayed technology of the time. Upon its completion, it held the title of one of the highest bridges in the world, a testament to early 20th-century engineering prowess. The bridge gives panoramic, vertigo-inducing views of the limestone cliffs and the valley far below, making it for travelers. Beyond its functional role in urban transportation, it has become a profound symbol of the city's unique geographical identity. The bridge remains in active use today, serving as both a vital traffic artery and a centerpiece for tourism in eastern Algeria.
