Emir Abdelkader Mosque (Algeria)

Weather…

The Emir Abdelkader Mosque in Constantine is a masterpiece of modern Islamic architecture and one of the largest religious complexes in Algeria. Launched in 1968 by President Houari Boumediene, the project took over two decades to complete, with the mosque finally opening its doors in 1994. The building is characterized by its two soaring minarets, each reaching 107 meters in height, which dominate the skyline of Constantine's newer districts. The prayer hall is a vast space that can accommodate 15.000 worshippers, featuring intricate marble work, Zellige tiles, and a massive central dome. It is named after Emir Abdelkader, the scholar and military leader who led the 19th-century resistance against French colonial rule. In addition to being a place of worship, the site houses the University of Islamic Sciences, making it a pivotal center for religious education and academic research in the Maghreb. The mosque's interior is renowned for its exceptional acoustics and grand chandeliers, providing a serene and awe-inspiring environment for visitors and congregants alike.
