Manëz is a small town in the Durrës County of central Albania, primarily known for its industrial history as a coal mining center. Located in a hilly landscape north of the Erzen River, the town is now part of the Durrës municipality. During the socialist era, Manëz was a significant site for the extraction of brown coal, which led to rapid population growth and the development of urban infrastructure to support the mining workforce. Following the closure of the mines in the 1990s, the town underwent a process of economic restructuring, with agriculture, small-scale trade, and furniture manufacturing now serving as main economic pillars. Geographically, the town is adjacent to Lake Manëz, a man-made reservoir used for irrigation and increasingly for local recreation. The surrounding area is dominated by olive groves and vineyards, maintaining a rural charm despite the town's industrial roots. Today, Manëz serves as a quieter residential area for those commuting to the nearby urban centers of Durrës and Tirana.
