Bredhi i Tërnovës Nature Reserve (Albania)

Weather…

The Bredhi i Tërnovës (Fir of Tërnova) Nature Reserve is located in eastern Albania within the Bulqizë municipality, covering an area of approximately 150 to 200 hectares. The core of the reserve is a rare primary stand of Silver Fir (Abies alba), which is unique in the region for its density and purity. The area was placed under protection in 1996 to safeguard this genetically valuable forest and its associated biodiversity from logging. Situated in a mountainous zone at altitudes exceeding 1,200 meters, the reserve benefits from a cool and humid microclimate that favors fir growth. Geologically, the area is dominated by igneous rocks that form acidic soils, well-suited for coniferous vegetation. In addition to firs, beech trees and various rare alpine flowers are found in the understory. The fauna includes typical mountain species such as roe deer, wild boars, and several woodpecker species that nest in the ancient trees. Due to its small size and ecological sensitivity, visitor access is restricted, primarily serving scientific research purposes.
