Gardens of Babur
The Gardens of Babur, known locally as Bagh-e Babur, is a historic park in Kabul, Afghanistan, and the final resting place of the first Mughal emperor, Babur. The complex was commissioned by Babur himself around 1528 AD and is an outstanding example of Mughal garden architecture. The garden is laid out in a strictly geometric style, with 15 terraces descending a hillside. A central water channel runs through the complex, feeding numerous pools and fountains that provide coolness and a meditative atmosphere. After decades of decay due to war, the park was comprehensively restored by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) and reopened in 2008. Today, it serves as a vital public space, offering recreation to the citizens of Kabul and standing as a symbol of the nation's rich history and cultural heritage. A small pavilion and a museum complete the site.
