Bagh-e Babur (Afghanistan)

Weather…

The Gardens of Babur, known locally as Bagh-e Babur, are a historic park in Kabul and one of the few well-preserved Mughal-era sites in Afghanistan. The gardens were laid out around 1528 by Babur, the first Mughal emperor. Contrary to tradition, Babur was not buried in a lavish mausoleum but, at his own request, in the open air in his beloved garden. The garden is terraced on a slope and follows the classic Charbagh layout, divided into four parts by water channels. It houses Babur's simple tomb, a small mosque built by his successor Shah Jahan, and several pavilions. After decades of decay during the wars, the gardens were extensively restored from 2002 onwards by the Aga Khan Trust for Culture. Today, they are once again a green oasis of tranquility and a popular meeting place for the residents of Kabul, reminiscent of the glorious past.
