Chibuluma Copper Mine (Zambia)

Weather…

The Chibuluma Copper Mine is located in Kalulushi within the Copperbelt Province and is distinguished as one of Zambia's highest-grade underground mining operations. Mining activities officially commenced in 1955 under the Rhodesian Selection Trust, and the site became renowned for copper ore grades often exceeding 3 percent. In 1997, following the privatization of the Zambian mining sector, the mine was acquired by the South African firm Metorex, which initiated significant infrastructure upgrades. The operation currently consists of two primary sectors, Chibuluma West and Chibuluma South, with the latter commissioned in 2001 to bolster production capacity. This mining complex plays a vital role in the local economy of Kalulushi, providing stable employment for hundreds of skilled workers. Despite the gradual depletion of some mineral reserves, Chibuluma remains a symbol of technical excellence and operational efficiency within the Zambian copper industry.
