Tarfaya Wind Farm (Morocco)

Weather…

The Tarfaya Wind Farm, located on the southwest coast of Morocco, is one of the largest onshore wind energy projects in Africa. With an installed capacity of 301.3 megawatts, the facility consists of 131 Siemens 2.3-101 wind turbines. Operational since 2014, the farm spans an area of approximately 8,900 hectares along the windswept Atlantic coastline. The project was realized as a joint venture between the Moroccan company Nareva Holding and the international energy group Engie. Tarfaya plays a key role in Morocco's ambitious energy plan, which aims to massively increase the share of renewable energy in the power mix. The facility avoids approximately 900,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually, significantly contributing to climate protection. Its geographical location is well-suited, as the region benefits from constant trade winds, resulting in high turbine efficiency and capacity factors. Beyond energy production, the wind farm has contributed to the economic stimulation of the Tarfaya region by creating local jobs during construction and operation.
