Chishimba Falls (Zambia)

Weather…

Chishimba Falls is located near the town of Kasama in northern Zambia and actually consists of three distinct sections: Mutumuna Falls, Kaela Rapids, and the main fall, Chishimba. The Luombe River plunges down in cascades here and is surrounded by a dense rainforest that remains green even during the dry season. The site is well-maintained and features well-developed paths between the various viewpoints. For the Bemba people, Chishimba is a highly sacred place. They believe that the spirit of Chishimba dwells in the caves behind the falls. There are strict cultural rules for visiting, such as the prohibition of swearing or bad behavior near the waterfalls. This spiritual aura gives the place a special tranquility and dignity that deeply impresses many visitors. The falls are easily accessible from Kasama and are a popular destination for day trips. On site, there are information boards about history and geology as well as picnic areas. A small hydroelectric power station nearby utilizes the energy of the falls without detracting from their beauty. The best time for a visit is year-round, with the falls being most impressive immediately after the rainy season from April to May.
