Imperial Citadel of Thăng Long (Vietnam)

Weather…

The Imperial Citadel of Thăng Long in Hanoi is a historical monument of outstanding significance that served as the political center of Vietnam for over 13 consecutive centuries. Built in the 11th century during the Lý Dynasty upon the remains of a 7th-century Chinese fortress, the site remained the seat of imperial power under the subsequent Trần, Lê, and Nguyễn dynasties. The area encompasses impressive structures such as the Đoan Môn Gate, the Hanoi Flag Tower, and the remnants of the Kính Thiên Palace. In 2002, large-scale archaeological excavations revealed deep layers of history that demonstrate the region's continuous cultural development. During the Vietnam War, the underground D67 bunker served as the headquarters for the Vietnamese General Staff. Since 2010, the citadel has been a UNESCO World Heritage site and stands as a symbol of the resilience and pride of the Vietnamese nation. Today, the site provides visitors with a deep insight into imperial history and the architectural mastery of past eras.
