Soc Trang
Soc Trang is a bustling crossroads of Vietnamese, Chinese, and Khmer cultures. This diverse heritage is most visible in its extraordinary pagodas, such as the Bat Pagoda (Chua Doi), where thousands of fruit bats hang from the trees, and the Clay Pagoda (Chua Dat Set), featuring thousands of intricate statues and giant candles made entirely by hand from clay. The city comes alive during the Ok Om Bok Festival in late autumn, featuring thrilling 'Ngo' boat races that attract spectators from across the country. Soc Trang's streets are filled with the scent of 'Bún nước lèo', a flavorful noodle soup that blends the culinary secrets of the three main ethnic groups. Don't forget to try the famous local 'Pia' cakes. Located about 230 km from Ho Chi Minh City, Soc Trang is easily reached by bus. The best time to visit is during October or November, coinciding with the lunar calendar's major festivals and the end of the rainy season.
