Củ Chi Tunnels (Vietnam)

Weather…

The Củ Chi Tunnels are a striking monument to Vietnamese resistance and engineering ingenuity during the Indochina War and the Vietnam War. This vast network of underground passages stretches over a total length of more than 250 kilometers and served Viet Cong fighters as hideouts, operational bases, hospitals, and living quarters. The tunnels were originally begun in the 1940s during the struggle against French colonial forces and were later massively expanded to withstand aerial bombardments and search operations by the US Army. The system is characterized by its multi-level construction, equipped with ingenious ventilation systems, trapdoors, and camouflaged entrances. Despite massive bombings and chemical defoliants, the tunnel network remained largely functional and was a decisive factor in the success of guerrilla tactics. Today, Củ Chi is a national memorial site that has visitors a deep insight into the hardship of underground life and the complexity of the military strategy of that era.
