Bạch Mã National Park (Vietnam)

Weather…

Bach Ma National Park is located in Central Vietnam, in Thua Thien Hue province, near the city of Hue. It covers an area of approximately 37,487 hectares and includes Mount Bach Ma, which reaches an elevation of 1,448 meters. Established in 1991, the park is renowned for its exceptional biodiversity, as it lies at the transition zone between North and South Vietnamese ecosystems. The region records some of the highest rainfall levels in Vietnam, leading to the formation of dense rainforests and numerous waterfalls, such as the famous Do Quyen Waterfall. In the 1930s, French colonists built a hill station here with over 100 villas, remnants of which can still be seen today. The park is home to rare species like the Saola, one of the world's rarest mammals, as well as a variety of primates and birds. Due to its proximity to the coast, the summit provides panoramic views of the Cau Hai Lagoon and the South China Sea.

Getting there
This protected area in central Vietnam is most commonly reached via a steep access road that winds its way up from the coastal plains into the higher mountainous regions.
📅
Best season
The optimal time for a visit is generally during the drier months from February to August, as heavy rainfall during the monsoon season can significantly restrict access and limit visibility.
⛰️
Terrain & paths
The landscape is characterized by dense primordial forests and rugged mountains, featuring trails of varying difficulty that partially traverse rocky sections and uneven, technical terrain.
🎒
What to bring
Essential gear includes sturdy, ankle-high hiking boots, strong insect repellent, and breathable clothing, while binoculars are highly recommended for observing the area's rich biodiversity.

Parking
Vehicles are typically parked at the visitor center at the base of the mountain, before the journey continues via authorized local transport or on foot along designated trails.
⚠️
Safety
Visitors must remain aware of rapid weather changes in the mountains and should strictly avoid wandering off the marked paths due to the dense vegetation and completely untamed natural terrain.
