Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary (Vietnam)

Weather…

The Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary served as the religious and political center of the Champa Kingdom in central Vietnam for over a millennium. Between the 4th and 14th centuries, more than 70 Hindu temples were constructed in this secluded valley, primarily dedicated to the god Shiva. The architecture is characterized by the use of red bricks joined together using a technique that remains not fully understood today, without visible mortar. Mỹ Sơn is regarded as one of the most significant examples of cultural exchange between the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. Although heavy American bombing during the Vietnam War in 1969 caused massive destruction, impressive ruins preserved in various groups still stand today. UNESCO added the site to the World Heritage List in 1999 in recognition of the uniqueness of the Cham culture. The remaining reliefs and sculptures provide a deep insight into the spiritual world and artistic mastery of a long-lost civilization.
