Imperial Citadel of Huế (Vietnam)

Weather…

The Imperial Citadel of Huế was the power center of the Nguyễn Dynasty and served as the official capital of the Vietnamese Empire from 1802 to 1945. The vast complex, situated on the banks of the Perfume River, was built according to the principles of geomancy and comprises the outer Citadel, the Imperial City, and the innermost Forbidden Purple City. Its architecture is a harmonious fusion of traditional Vietnamese elements and military fortification techniques inspired by the French engineer Vauban. In 1968, the complex suffered significant damage during the heavy fighting of the Battle of Huế, but extensive restoration projects have preserved landmarks such as the Noon Gate and the Palace of Supreme Harmony. Since 1993, the ensemble has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site and is considered one of the country's most significant historical monuments. The walls and palaces tell the story of the transition from monarchy to modernity, drawing millions of visitors annually to explore Vietnam's rich cultural heritage.
