The Museum of Contemporary Art of Caracas (MAC), formerly known as the Sofía Ímber Museum, is one of the most important art institutions in Latin America. Founded in 1973 by the journalist and cultural promoter Sofía Ímber, the museum is located in the Parque Central residential and commercial complex. It was a pioneer in the region for its modern museum management and the quality of its international collection. The museum is particularly famous for housing a complete set of 100 etchings by Pablo Picasso, known as the Suite Vollard. Its permanent collection includes over 3,000 works by world-renowned artists such as Joan Miró, Marc Chagall, Francis Bacon, and Robert Rauschenberg, as well as prominent Venezuelan figures like Jesús Soto and Cruz-Diez. The museum's brutalist architecture and its specialized library and educational programs have made it a vital hub for contemporary culture.
