National Art Gallery (Venezuela)

Weather…

The National Art Gallery (GAN) is Venezuela's premier museum dedicated exclusively to the preservation and promotion of national artistic heritage. Founded in 1974 and opened in 1976, it was originally housed in the neoclassical building that now belongs to the Museum of Fine Arts. In 2006, a massive new building, the largest museum structure in the country, began its staggered opening on Avenida México. The gallery manages a vast collection of more than 9,000 works spanning over four centuries of Venezuelan art history, from the colonial period to the present day. One of its most famous possessions is the iconic painting "Miranda in La Carraca" by Arturo Michelena. The GAN plays a crucial role in constructing a national visual identity, offering a comprehensive view of the country's artistic evolution. Its modern facilities include conservation labs, a library, and multiple exhibition halls that showcase the diversity of Venezuelan creativity.
